About the artist

TEMURI PAPIASHVILI
“For the viewer to actually hear a painting,
to hear the music which emanates from a canvas,
that’s my ultimate goal.”

Temuri Papiashvili’s originality defies convenient “Ladels”. The artist, when
Pressed, chooses to say that he is a “Romanticist in the Modern Context”. His
Paintings cover a broad scope of subject matter and are always highly charged with emotion. “ I am often working in my dreams. The most unusual visions come to me then.”

Papiashvili was born in Tbilisi, the capital of the former USSR republic of Georgia, in 1953. He graduated from the elite Georgian State Academy of Arts in 1985. Since then, he has exhibited in the USA, Poland, Sweden, Germany, Cyprus, and Russia Ankara Istambulb. His works can be found in private collections throughout Europe and abroad.

Papiashvili’s paintings are marked by their vidrant, sensuous colors and sharp, energetic lines. Many of his compositions have a dream-like guality, and his visions span from erotik to lyrical to humorous. His portraits of women are tender and personal, their countenance both melancholy and seductive.

He is influenced by the European modern masters, including Picasso, Modigliani and Matisse. With their many layers of color and deep lines, many of Papiashvili’s works have the unigue appearance of a “stained glass” window.

“I am searching for freedom in color and line. I want to unite painting and graphics in the same work”.
